With 43 Broadway musicals and over 900 songs to his credit, Rodgers was one of the most well-known American composers of the 20th century, and his compositions had a significant influence on popular music. Rodgers is known for his songwriting partnerships, first with lyricist Lorenz Hart and then with Oscar Hammerstein II. Among his many accolades are thirty-four Tony Awards, fifteen Academy Awards, a Pulitzer Prize, and two Grammy Awards. He is responsible for musicals such as Oklahoma, Babes In Arms, South Pacific, Pal Joey, Carousel, The Boys from Syracuse, Cinderella, On Your Toes, State Fair, Flower Drum Song, The King and I, and The Sound of Music.
